More Women

Freedom from Hunger's Credit with Education program is making a fundamental impact in the lives of women and their families. Perhaps the most inspiring evidence of Credit with Education's positive impact can be found in the words of the women themselves. Upon reading their stories, we hope that you, like us, are heartened by their strength, insight and grace.

Doña María's Story -- Guatemala

Doña María Paulina (center in picture on the right), 53 years old, lives in the western highlands of Guatemala, where she has put her talents to work by starting her own successful business (making clay figures) that helps support her family's expenses. Combining her artistic talents with a small loan of about US $80 and the support of her 28-member village bank group, Doña María Paulina has become a successful entrepreneur.

Roumba's Story -- Burkina Faso

Roumba, a mother in Burkina Faso, says, "I like the education best. Before I joined Credit with Education, I didn't recognize that one can have money and not know how to manage it or how to use it for the benefit of one's children. And the credit has enabled me to feed my family better. I now can make better food with high-quality ingredients, even chicken sometimes."

Christine's Story -- Madagascar

"Participating in groups during the Credit Association meetings helps with remembering what we have learned. We work together to come up with the solutions. We know many women who want to join the Credit Association and they are waiting because they see the way it has changed our lives." - Christine with her children, Madagascar
