What's Behind the Numbers? |

Freedom
from Hunger created the Adopt-an-Outcome giving program to bring
you closer to the women and families who benefit from Freedom from
Hunger's services. Adopt-an-Outcome gives you a fuller understanding
of the impact of your support and more information about how specific
outcomes help families become food-secure, healthier and self-sufficient.
As
you consider adopting an outcome, you may find the following information
helpful.
The
Adopt-an-Outcome giving program:
- Helps
you understand the tangible results of your generosity by associating
your gift with one of the improvements Freedom from Hunger aims
to achieve;
- Educates
you about the real issues in overcoming hunger and how accomplishing
specific outcomes can create lasting change for chronically hungry
and poor families;
- Provides
insight into Freedom from Hunger's programs-how we work and how
we measure success;
- Leverages
each contribution for greater impact-your donation supports ongoing,
successful programs and attracts more support. Each dollar donated
to Freedom from Hunger generates an additional $16 in life-changing
services.
- Helps
Freedom from Hunger raise needed funds for critically important
initiatives.
The
Adopt-an-Outcome giving program does not oversimplify the problem
of hunger. No matter how much we wish there were a single solution,
we acknowledge that there are multiple causes of chronic hunger
and they deserve a variety of responses. Freedom from Hunger's self-help
programs and targeted outcomes demonstrate that-equipped with the
right resources and information-there are many changes a woman can
make that can improve her family's food security, health and future
prospects.
Adopt-an-Outcome
relates your contribution to these powerful changes so that you
can better understand the effectiveness of your contribution to
Freedom from Hunger. In addition to the descriptions provided for
each outcome, the "Behind the Outcomes" box on each Outcome page
provides you a link that gives more information on how we achieve
these outcomes, the success we've measured and/or the realities
of life for the people we serve.
For
each outcome, the amount of the gift is related to a portion of
the funds required by Freedom from Hunger to deliver these services
(costs associated with delivering the tools and technical assistance
that result in that outcome) or represent a specific cost unit of
an ongoing program.
For
example, when you choose to "Prevent a Disaster" for $65, that gift
amount represents Freedom from Hunger's actual cost of developing,
adapting and delivering malaria education as well as the cost of
brokering subsidized, insecticide-treated bednets to an entire village
of women in this growing West Africa program. In another example,
if you chose to "Empower Girls to Resist Early Marriage" for $1,583,
this is the amount that Freedom from Hunger needs to raise and spend
(beyond what has already been committed by other donors) to train
Indian agencies to meet the specific needs of 83 adolescent girls
with education, access to financial services and support to build
their self-confidence. For this program initiative, we need to raise
a total of $476,750 over the course of three years to meet our goal
of bringing 25,000 girls into the program.
Freedom
from Hunger knows the power of leverage. We have demonstrated that
each individual effort, gift and service has greater impact when
effectively combined with the contributions of others. All gifts
to the Adopt-an-Outcome program are combined with the contributions
of other donors for maximum impact.
In
the Adopt-an-Outcome program, as in all Freedom from Hunger programs,
our promise to you is to be respectful of your questions and comments,
transparent in our responses, and effective in our work. If you
